We want your visit to Southern Oklahoma to be a memorable one!

Currently booking for Spring and Summer, 2017!!!  We are taking out our 2 hour and longer rides in the beautiful rugged Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

Don’t let the weather forecasts keep you away.  A lot of the bad weather that’s forecast never gets here — even when the weather reports have called for rain.   Don’t be afraid to make reservations.  They can always be cancelled (with no charges, of course) if it is actually going to rain.

If you are having a difficult time finding a camping area, check out the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, less than 5 miles from the ranch.  They have beautiful ‘private’ campsites, most with easy access to nice restrooms and showers.  There are swimming areas and miles of hiking trails — all in an immaculately clean National Park with NO ADMISSION CHARGES!  The campsites can be reserved by phone and are reasonably priced.  Arbuckle Lake (in the Recreation Area) also has many RV sites and camp sites and nice boat launching ramps.

Special rides in 2017

Special over-nite ride is planned for May 19, 20 and 21, 2017

We are planning an over-nite trail ride for Friday, May 19 (late afternoon) and Saturday, May 20, 2017 (all day) and possibly, Sunday, May 21, 2017.  This ride will be held approximately 100 mile east of Sulphur, OK in the Mc Gee Creek State Park on the east side of the Mc Gee Creek Reservoir.  This will be in a 10,000 acre primitive area of virgin tall pine forests and rugged canyons.  There is no other place like it in Oklahoma.  There is primitive camping near a ranger station or motels are available 30 miles away in Atoka, OK or 20 miles away in Antlers, OK.   If interested in booking a spot, give us a call.  [This ride is only suitable for physically fit riders that are used to full days in the saddle.]

Special 4-H annual spring ride coming up May 27, 2017

Saturday, May 27, 2017 is the date for the annual spring trail ride held on the Pat Howe Ranch located 12 miles south of Sulphur, OK.  This ride has been held every year for over 25 years.  We can usually bring up a few trail horses for people wanting to go on the ride that do not own their own trail horses.  There is a 4 your morning ride and usually there is a short 1-2 hour afternoon session.  A delicious smoked brisket dinner is served at lunch time (with all of the trimmings)  Call for more details and to reserve a horse for this ride held in the rugged Arbuckle mountains on a private ranch that is never open for public riding at any other time.

Special St. Jude ride coming up Sept 9, 2017

September 9, 2017 is the date for the special 4-H St. Jude Trail ride on a huge private ranch.  There is a morning 3-4 hour session, a lunch served (Sub sandwiches with drinks and desert) and a 2 hour afternoon ride.  We can bring a few extra horses for guest riders.   This is a once a year special ride.  Call to reserve one of the few spots available on it.  This will be on two of the biggest ranches in Southern Oklahoma at the very TOP of the Arbuckle Mountains.

Trail riders overlook fall colors

We take out most of the 1 hour rides here on our ranch (Wolfe Ranch) as well as several private ranches that we have made arrangements to ride on.   Most of our 2 hour and longer rides are taken out in the beautiful 10,000 acre Chickasaw National Recreation Area.  WOW!!!   We also take out 3 hour and longer rides when we can.  We usually can do this easier during the week and not on spring break, fall break or holiday weeks or weekends.  All rides are very scenic with many photo opportunities.   Call and make a reservation today!!!

A recent ride on our ranch

The longer 3 to 4 hour up to full day trail rides may also be set up as private ‘lesson rides’ where the riders receive instruction in proper horse handling and riding techniques.  Riders learn to communicate effectively with a horse so that the horse will willingly do what the rider wants and go where the rider wants to go.   It is so much more fun when you ride with the confidence that you know what you are doing and so does the horse.

You should book in advance for trail rides if you want to be assured of being able to ride.  Typically, Spring and Fall Break rides and mid-summer rides book up pretty fast.  Longer rides are taken on a big ranch south of us or in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and need to be booked earlier than the 1 and 2 hour rides.  We have saddlebags for all of the horses, so bring a bottle of water, camera, snacks, etc.

While we strive for safe trail rides and we use horses that have done this for several years (some we have had for 12 or 14 years) and we have VERY experienced trail guides, we remind everyone that we are NOT liable for any accidents or injuries under Oklahoma Law.   Under the best of circumstances, horses are still horses and accidents can happen (although we have had very few accidents in the last 16 years).  Riding helmets are provided for anyone that wants one and must be worn by all riders under 18 years of age.   We fit and adjust saddles to each rider to make each rider comfortable and more safe.   We offer time in one of our round pens for any rider, child or adult, that wants a few minutes to get acquainted with their horse and learn a little bit about how he should be ridden.
